About the Rhize Coaching Fellowship

We are recruiting two types of participants into the RCF program: Coaching Fellows and Coaching Mentors.

Note: There is one application, on which you will be able to indicate if you would like to be a Coaching Fellow, a Coaching Mentor, or either. Read more about the application.

Coaching Mentors are experienced trainers that have familiarity with the Rhize toolkit and curriculum and are ready to take their training skills to the next level.

Coaching Fellows are natural trainers and organizers working with movements in their communities wanting to improve their training and leadership skills.

What a Coaching Mentor Does

  • Coaching Mentors will be paired with two Coaching Fellows and serve as an advisor and support to them as they go through the RCF

  • Attend a virtual retreat where Coaching Mentors will learn more about the theory behind movements

  • Participate in monthly group calls and skill-building webinars 

  • Check in with mentees and provide guidance on a monthly basis, providing support through their movement support work

Benefits of being a Coaching Mentor

  • Monthly stipend & support for internet expenses

  • Building community at a week-long retreat

  • An opportunity to learn more about the theory behind movements

  • Monthly group learning opportunities on essential topics like digital security for activists, self-care in activism, and how to set up your own shop as an independent Coach and trainer

What a Coaching Fellow Does

  • Coaching Fellows will be paired with Coaching Mentors, who are experienced activists that will guide them in their learning process

  • Attend a virtual retreat that will start to build the skills necessary to support movements

  • Participate in monthly group calls and skill-building webinars 

  • Learn how to use Rhize’s Movement Mapping Tools and understand how to support movements through the First Exposure Training

Benefits of Being a Coaching Fellow

  • Monthly stipend, internet expenses and funds for movement support work

  • Intensive training in Rhize toolkit including the Movement Mapping Tool and First Exposure Training

  • A customized, personal development plan to help you achieve your goals around movement training

  • Personalized support from veteran activists and a Coaching Mentor

  • A network of peers and experienced
    organizers to learn from and share new best practices

PROGRAM PHASES

The program will take part in 5 main phases

  • January 2023: Online orientation

  • February 2023: Learning through a virtual retreat

  • March 2023: Movement Mapping

  • April-June 2023: Coaching Movements

  • June 2023: Evaluation and Wrap-Up

APPLICANT CRITERIA

Rhize strives to create inclusive programs that are accessible to all participants, while also ensuring that all participants are dedicated and able to take full advantage of the program. If you answer yes to these questions, then you’re eligible to be a Coaching Fellow or Coaching Mentor!

  • Do you believe in people power? 

  • Are you a passionate movement leader, mobilizer or an activist residing in Africa? 

  • Are you seeking to expand your knowledge and training skills in the field of nonviolent movement support and building? 

  • Do you have 4-6 hours to dedicate to the program each week?

  • Are you able to attend a week-long virtual retreat in late February/early March?
