Summer Fellowship 2016

We're looking for a creative self-starter who is eager to help the organization scale its work to support more activists and more movements. No one day will look the same, which means you will gain lots of experience with all aspects of building an organization. You will work closely with all team members, including Rhize's Founder and Executive Director, who builds professional development and learning into all aspects of the fellowship with periodic access to trainings, skill-building sessions, and experts in the field.

Rhize has an experienced, energetic and passionate team that is motivated by the work we do. We are looking for someone to add to this positive team culture that flourishes on collaboration, initiative, and vision. Rhize isn't just a job, it's a way to live your passion. We are looking for someone who can work at minimum 3 days per week (at least 20-25 hours, which can be spread out over multiple days), but preference is given to those who can work full-time.

You are:

  • Inspired by a small and nimble organization and the idea of working on a small team
  • Excited about learning and being flexible in an often changing start-up environment
  • Excellent at multi-tasking and prioritizing
  • Extremely collaborative and have great proactive, verbal communication skills
  • Not afraid to speak up and to bring some of your own ideas to the table while also having a healthy amount of humility and eagerness to learn from experts who have been doing this work for decades
  • Able to see gaps or needs and fill them without being asked to do something
  • Tech savvy and understand the power of technology to improve and streamline processes, systems and communication
  • Convicted in your belief that community building and community organizing—digital and grassroots—is a central tenant in changing the world
  • Experienced or interested in leadership development and curriculum development

We're looking for fellows who can support the work of Rhize through:

  • Bringing dynamic ideas of how to build and support communities around the world
  • Developing engaging content and a branding strategy for Rhize's social media and digital community platforms
  • Supporting and managing fundraising strategies, including setting up clear systems to track donors and funding opportunities (experience using CRM software like Action Network is a plus)
  • Writing grants, proposals, and fellowship applications
  • Researching and writing papers & training materials on best practices in network management, movement-building, and grassroots organizing
  • Helping to manage day-to-day operational needs

This fellowship is based in New York City. Start/end dates can be flexible.

This is an unpaid position, though there may be opportunity for a part-time position down the road.
